People Of Zambia

My mom makes these dresses and I sell them for her. She has a lot of health issues, like diabetes, which makes it hard for her to work out of home.

What brings you joy?
“Making these baskets for people – my craftwork brings me joy.”
“That’s wonderful, thank you!”
“Can you print the picture and bring it to me? I’m always here. Promise?”

“What do you want to do when you grow up?”
“When I grow up I want to change people’s lives. I want to entertain people. I want to build more companies. I want to produce more things in this country. I also want to make people happy and serve their lives, because when I grow up I want to be either a nurse or a musician. Mostly, I want to be a nurse to save people’s lives. And I must also work hard in school and I must help others do service.”
“So you want to change the world for the better huh?”
“Yes”
“Oh I bet you will! Don’t you have a sister?”
“Yes!”
“What do you love most about her?”
“She colors with me, she makes me laugh, she teases me about my cloths. She just does a lot of things. I like her jokes that make me laugh. She always tells me her favorite color, which is pink and purple, just like me! Except I like green too. We have fun. I like what she does and I miss her very much. I love her, and she loves me.”

“What brings you joy?”
“My business brings me joy – however I’m having financial trouble, so if you buy something it will definitely bring me more joy.”

“What brings you joy?”
“Being with my family and friends and meeting new people. Really, being with people that are themselves and who make me happy so I can make them happy.”
“That’s wonderful! What’s your biggest dream?”
“My biggest dream is to travel around the whole world and be a veterinarian doctor because I love animals.”
“Awesome! Is there anything else you want to say?”
“I want to say: Be yourself. Love who you are and don’t let anyone change you.”

"What do you love about Zambia?"
"I love the traditional Zambian ceremonies here, and one of the biggest ones is the Kuomboka ceremony, and that’s where I’m from, the Western part of Zambia. Kuomboka means ‘coming out of the waters’ and is normally done in April and May, going from the lower plain to the higher plain. This is because the lower plain becomes flooded due to the rainy season. The King moves from the lower part to the higher part. This is why I love Zambia."

“Lay a foundation for those of the future, is what Nelson Mandela did. He knew that the future children and people of today would need freedom and peace, and that is what I want to do in the future. I want to lay a foundation for the future people because I know the children and the people are going to need a foundation.”

"Tell me about your job."
“I've been in this company for about 11 years now. I enjoy my job simply because we meet a lot of people from all over the world. I’d meet someone from China, who tells me about their culture in China, as well as South Africa, America, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Angola, and so forth. I would say that I've been all over the world.”

“What’s your favorite food?”
“Ice-cream!”
“Oh really, how come?”
“I don’t know, it just brings me joy!”
“Do you think ice-cream can change the world?”
“Of course it can!”
“How so?”
“Well, if we gave ice-cream to all the little girls and boys everywhere, everyone’s heart would be filled with so much joy. The world would definitely be a much better place.”

"What brings you joy?"
"A lot of things bring me joy, like playing soccer and spending time with my family. I really enjoy those things."
"Absolutely, that's great!"
"You know Vicky, you are so funny."
"Oh really? How come?"
"Because, you're just so friendly to everyone."

"Take my picture and put it on the internet."
"Can the kids be in it?"
 "Ehh...sure!"

"What is the best dream you've ever had?"
"The best dream I had was the dream about my friends and I playing."
"Oh really? What did you guys do?"
"We were playing and chasing each other. One fell down and we all laughed. It was the best dream I ever had. I woke up very happy."
"I bet it was a good way to start your day huh?"
"Yeah!"

“When was the last time you laughed?”
“I don’t know, like, a few minutes ago.”
“Oh really? What were you laughing about?”
“I was laughing with my brother. When we arrived at school this morning he looked so dazed when he woke up in the car. He said, ‘where are we, where are we?’ and I told him that we were at the school. He said, ‘oh, I thought we were at Hungry Lion or Subway or something like that.”
Oh that’s so cute! You love your brother don’t you?”
"Yeah, I love him a lot."
